Yasmine"s Kittens Visit Room 5

We have been very interested in the regular updates that Yasmine provides us on her kittens since they were born.  We were all so excited when they came to visit us.  Tyrone loved spending time with them and was very careful and respectful towards them.

Safety Walk Through Clive

We went for a walk around Clive to discuss the various dangers around us and how we can keep safe in our community.  We also enjoyed a treat beside the river.

I-Pads in Room 5

We enjoy our time with the i-Pads in Room 5.  We have used a new game called "Slide" to help us with the quick recall of our basic facts for maths.

A Moment in Time

We wrote these thoughts as if we were looking out of the window of an aeroplane.
My Adventure in a Plane
I can hear the pilot talking to us.  His voice is loud and croaky.
I can see some small houses and some fluffy clouds.
I feel happy because it is my first time in a plane.
I wonder how they drive the sparkly plane?

By Tyler O
The Amazing Plane
I can hear the small propellers on the side.
I can see the metal wing.
I feel confident because I know the pilot won’t crash.
I wonder what is going on in the blue, shiny sea down below?
By Reuben
The Magic Plane
I can hear the rumbling when I’m landing on the ground.
I can see the fluffy, white clouds and the tiny houses and the white plane wing.
I can see the sparkling sea.
I feel sad and nervous because we might crash land.
I wonder what is in the shiny, blue sea?
By Juel
The Jetting Plane
I can hear the rumbling engine.
When we land I will hear the bumping aeroplane.
I can see the fluffy, sparkling clouds.
I feel excited because there are ipads on the squishy seat.
I wonder how they drive the Air New Zealand plane?
By Louie
My Get Away
I can hear the noise of the screeching wheels.
I can see the white wing of the plane.
I feel the plane tipping.
I wonder when the plane is going to stop?
I wonder what it is like to be a pilot?

The World BMX Champs

In the holidays Tyler W represented New Zealand in the World BMX Champs in Auckland.  Here is his recount of his experience.

When I went to Auckland I went to the Vector Arena.  I went BMXing in a stadium.  I went up the start gate.  I balanced and I ...  ZOOMED down!  We all went around the track.  Someone fell down on the corner.  He got back up and rode the whole track.  After we were finished we watched the pro's race.

By Tyler W

Tyler got 2nd in race 1, 1st in race 2, 3rd in race 3 and 5th in the quarter finals (just missing out on a spot in the semi-finals).
Well done Tyler!!!  A super effort.  We are so proud of YOU!!!!

During the last week of Term Two we had an earthquake at school.  Room 5 wrote about that morning.

Today we were doing reading.  It was our turn on the mat.  We were in the middle of our book when Mrs Cornelius felt the floor shaking.  It was an earthquake!  We had to go the under tables.

If I was a goldfish . . .

I would swim around to the try to find a secret cave.
I would eat my crunchy fish food.
I would hunt in a secret cave.
I would play with my friends.
By Reuben

If I was a goldfish...

I would go behind a big rock to hide.
I would swim slowly in the bouncy coral.
I would go up to the top of the tank and get
the Bumpy fish food.
I would find a cave and go in.
By Miah
