Rocket Blast Off!!

Today we made our Rocket blast off.
Inside the rocket we put vinegar and baking soda. They reacted together creating a gas called CO2.
The pressure inside the rocket built up and made the rocket blast off it's stand and high into the air!

Light

Today we were experimenting with light!
We made a simple circuit using wires, batteries and bulbs.

We made our own sunset shining a torch through milky water.
The particles in the milk scatter the light, however orange and red colours scatter the least and shine through. This is why we see these colours in a sunrise or sunset!

Yasmine"s Kittens Visit Room 5

We have been very interested in the regular updates that Yasmine provides us on her kittens since they were born.  We were all so excited when they came to visit us.  Tyrone loved spending time with them and was very careful and respectful towards them.

Safety Walk Through Clive

We went for a walk around Clive to discuss the various dangers around us and how we can keep safe in our community.  We also enjoyed a treat beside the river.

I-Pads in Room 5

We enjoy our time with the i-Pads in Room 5.  We have used a new game called "Slide" to help us with the quick recall of our basic facts for maths.

A Moment in Time

We wrote these thoughts as if we were looking out of the window of an aeroplane.
My Adventure in a Plane
I can hear the pilot talking to us.  His voice is loud and croaky.
I can see some small houses and some fluffy clouds.
I feel happy because it is my first time in a plane.
I wonder how they drive the sparkly plane?

By Tyler O
The Amazing Plane
I can hear the small propellers on the side.
I can see the metal wing.
I feel confident because I know the pilot won’t crash.
I wonder what is going on in the blue, shiny sea down below?
By Reuben
The Magic Plane
I can hear the rumbling when I’m landing on the ground.
I can see the fluffy, white clouds and the tiny houses and the white plane wing.
I can see the sparkling sea.
I feel sad and nervous because we might crash land.
I wonder what is in the shiny, blue sea?
By Juel
The Jetting Plane
I can hear the rumbling engine.
When we land I will hear the bumping aeroplane.
I can see the fluffy, sparkling clouds.
I feel excited because there are ipads on the squishy seat.
I wonder how they drive the Air New Zealand plane?
By Louie
My Get Away
I can hear the noise of the screeching wheels.
I can see the white wing of the plane.
I feel the plane tipping.
I wonder when the plane is going to stop?
I wonder what it is like to be a pilot?

Milk Poems

We brainstormed some interesting adjectives and verbs to describe milk.  We wrote wonderful poems.  Here are a few of them.  Please come and view the others on our classroom wall.

Kapa Haka

We all love going to Kapa Haka with Mr Bassett every Wednesday.

Maths - Fractions

We have been learning about fractions.  We know what fraction of our pizza we ate and what fraction of the pizza is left.

We have been using our interactive board to help us learn what fractions equal the same.

of them.  In class we have been learning more about cows and milk.

Rectangles Maths Group

The clever children in the "rectangle" maths group have been learning how to solve subtraction problems by rounding down to the next whole ten and then subtracting the remaining amount.  Here are some of their working out and use of this strategy.
